The impact: Derrick Canteen to transfer

It's unfair to Virginia Tech defensive back Derrick Canteen to call him a "depth piece." While he wasn't a starter at corner or safety on the depth chart for much of the year, the Georgia Southern transfer played extensively at both, and got plenty of snaps at nickel, as well.

In search of one last opportunity to win a starting corner role and build his NFL résumé, Canteen will head back to the Transfer Portal.
