Wilson settles in on decision date

One of the top prospects in the Mid-Atlantic is linebacker Payton Wilson. The Rivals100 prospect has long planned a spring decision, and now, he's getting more specific.

The No. 7 outside linebacker and No. 117 overall prospect nationally hails from Hillsborough (N.C.) Orange County, and is the No. 7 prospect in the Tar Heel State. Virginia Tech is near the top of his list, though Clemson is seen as the overall leader in his recruitment.

The 6-4, 220-pounder has a national offer list, including his top seven of Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, Penn State, North Carolina, and the Hokies. Others that have offered (but are effectively eliminated with a decision coming within a couple months) include Auburn, Florida State, Michigan State, and Wisconsin.

The Virginia Tech coaching staff is expecting to get Wilson on campus during spring ball, which would be a last chance to impress him enough to convince him to become a Hokie.
