He's been Virginia Tech's top running back for the past three years, but Travon McMillian will play his final season elsewhere:

See the impact of McMillian's departure here.

The redshirt junior has gotten the lion's share of the carries in each of the past three seasons, but over the past two has proven to be an awkward fit with the new offensive scheme brought by Justin Fuente.

Thanks to redshirting the 2014 season, McMillian will be able to graduate and spend his final year at another institution. The Woodbridge (Va.) Hylton product will spend the next few weeks trying to figure out his options.

He is the Hokies' leading rusher with 409 yards on 104 carries this year, was behind only quarterback Jerod Evans with 671 yards on 145 carries last Fall, and had his best season as a redshirt freshman, notching 1,042 yards on exactly 200 carries. He has 16 career touchdowns. He will forgo his last chance to add to his Hokie legacy with a bowl game against Oklahoma State, opting instead to prepare for graduation in May and his next stop in the college football world.

With McMillian's departure, VT will lose both the 6-0, 210-pounder and the some contributions to the run game from the wide receiver corps in outgoing seniors Cam Phillips and James Clark. The Hokies return all other running backs, including redshirt sophomores DeShawn McClease and Coleman Fox, redshirt junior Steven Peoples, and true freshman Jalen Holston. That trio has combined for 1,054 yards this Fall.

VT also has commitments from two-star Caleb Steward (an early enrollee) and three-star Cole Beck, and offered four-star Jashaun Corbin yesterday.
