If you're looking for a pass-rush punch, the newest Hokie is for you. Rock Hill (S.C.) South Pointe defensive end Eli Adams is signed.

The 6-1, 230-pounder may be slightly undersized for the position, but has been absurdly productive in high school.

Rankings

Three-star, No. 10 player in South Carolina, No. 35 weakside defensive end nationally.

Other suitors

Virginia Tech, Charlotte, East Carolina, Kansas State, Maryland, North Carolina State, South Carolina

Recruitment story

There was a pretty quick turnaround in Adams's recruitment: he went from new offer to commit in less than a month. Virginia Tech offered in May, and he committed June 10 when VT was unquestionably still his top offer. Though the Marylands and South Carolinas of the world tried to come in, he never wavered.

Game breakdown

Adams plays a little bit of everything in the front seven, lining up at linebacker, defensive end, and even defensive tackle. His body type could see him ultimately end up at any of the three, though being a pass-rusher from the end is his forte. He has outstanding burst, great power for a slightly undersized kid, and the motor to chase plays down when they are run away from him. While his size will be a limiting factor overall, it shouldn't prevent him from being uber productive.

Statistically speaking

South Pointe finished 14-0. Adams had 73 tackles, 31.0 of them for loss with 17 sacks. He also had 26 quarterback hurries, one safety, and forced two fumbles. He had a fumble recovery for touchdown, as well.
