Rodney Rice recently shared with me his desire to step away from our program. While his departure is unfortunate, we wish Rodney and his family all the best in the future.
— Mike Young

Rice was a top-100 recruit in the 2022 recruiting class, out of Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha. At DeMatha he had played under then-VT assistant Mike Jones, who has since moved to Maryland.

Though Rice's true freshman season was limited to just eight appearances due to injury, he showed impressively in that time. In those appearances, Rice totaled 59 points, 26 rebounds, and seven assists.

While the door remains open for a return to the Hokies, it seems unlikely that Rice returns to Virginia Tech for the 2023 =-24 season.
