Quincy Patterson will participate in Elite 11, The Opening finals

Sunday's The Opening regional in Chicago was a productive camp for Virginia Tech commit Quincy Patterson. The three-star quarterback out of Chicago's Solorio Academy was named quarterback MVP of the event, earning a trip to Beaverton, Ore. for the Elite 11 and Opening Finals this summer.

Patterson committed to the Hokies in February over a host of offers from Big Ten, ACC, and Ivy League schools (along with a smattering of SEC and mid-major programs). Although he's just a three-star prospect, his potential on the gridiron is very high. He's a skilled runner of the ball, but is inexperienced in the nuances of a complex passing game - in large part because his ability with the ball in his hands removes the necessity of a timing-oriented offense for his high school team.

Earning a trip to the Elite 11 shows that not only does Patterson have polish that he hasn't yet had the opportunity to show on the high school field, he is also a quick learner, and will have the chance to soak up more coaching around some of the best prospects and with some outstanding coaching in Oregon later this Summer.

By the time all is said and done, don't be surprised if Patterson's rankings jump way up. He's currently the No. 23 dual-threat quarterback nationally and No. 12 rising senior in Illinois. He is one of two quarterbacks committed to Virginia Tech's 2018 class, along with Owings Mills (Md.) McDonogh three-star DeJuan Ellis.
