The 6-4, 180-pounder is a three-star unranked at his position or within the Commonwealth of Virginia. Rival UVa was the runner-up in his recruitment. He is the 11th player to commit in the class.

He is the 11th overall pledge, and second commit in two days for the Hokies, after the Orange and Maroon landed New Jersey quarterback Tahjamell Bullock yesterday. That pledge bumped the class up to No. 52 nationally, and Lawson's takes it up another eight spots to No. 44. The group is only up to No. 11 in the ACC, though every team higher in the conference rankings has at least 14 commitments.

Sherando High - the alma mater of 2017 signee-turned-student-assistant Dylan Rivers - finished 7-5 last season. The Warriors lost to Tuscarora in the first round of the Class 4 state playoffs. Lawson contributed as both a linebacker/standup end and wide receiver for the team.
