The New England Prep School Athletic Council is routinely one of the most competitive basketball leagues in the country, producing dozens of four- and five-star prospects over the years. That makes it all the more impressive for each individual deemed to be the best in the league.
For the 2016-17 season, that player is a future Hokie. Ashburnham (Mass.) Cushing Academy point guard Wabissa Bede is the NEPSAC's Class AA Player of the Year. The 6-1, 190-pound Bede is the No. 66 overall prospect nationally according to Rivals.com, and led Cushing to a Class AA championship this season.
The four-star is one of three VT commitments in the 2017 class, along with fellow signee Nickeil Alexander-Walker of Chattanooga (Tenn.) Hamilton Heights Christian, a shooting guard ranked the No. 29 overall prospect nationally, and forward P.J. Horne of Tifton (Ga.) Tift County, who will sign when the late period begins April 12.
The Hokies lose just two major contributors from this year's NCAA Tournament team (forward Zach LeDay and backup combo guard Seth Allen), while adding not just the three 2017 recruits, but also multiple players who had to sit out the year due to injuy or transfer regulations.
