Hokies add hoops transfer Cordell Pemsl

Virginia Tech will get more fruit out of the 2020 transfer cycle. Former Iowa forward Cordell Pemsl will be a Hokie:

Pemsl will be a graduate transfer after finishing his redshirt junior season for the Hawkeyes in March. He missed his third year in Iowa City due to surgery to clear up an injury suffered in high school.

Pemsl played 96 career games at Iowa, averaging just under six points per game. He also notched 4.3 points and 1.3 assists per contest. The Hawkeyes missed the NCAA Tournament his first two years on-campus, then returned to the dance in his absence last season, and were projected to make a second-straight appearance before the event was canceled this season.

With Pemsl's commitment, Virginia Tech adds more frontcourt help - and Pemsl finds a program at which he's likely to play a bigger role.

With only five career three-point attempts, he's far from a stretch-four, and will likely be mostly a center for Virginia Tech during his lone year in Blacksburg. He provides more flexibility to play big, with (generously listed) 6-6 PJ Horne and 6-10 John Ojiako back for another year, while 6-9 Wofford transfer Keve Alum is able to see the court after redshirting his transfer season in 2019-20.
