On the eve before Virginia Tech welcomes over 100 recruits on campus for its spring game, it's now lost one of its 2016 class members.
St Frances (Md.) three-star cornerback Kareem Felder reached out to Rivals.com and HokieHaven.com this afternoon to say he's decommitted from the Hokies. Felder had made his initial pledge Feb. 7.
Felder said he broke the news earlier today to his recruiter, assistant coach Torrian Gray.
"He just told me he wished me the best of luck," Felder said. "That was basically all he said. He just wished me luck. He's the type of guy who's cool if I think that's what's best for me."
Since making his commitment, Felder has added offers from Ohio State and Clemson. He said he could still consider Virginia Tech, but could also make a new decision by next week.
"When I talked to Coach Gray, I thanked him for everything, their time and effort," Felder said. "It's a good school and everything, but there were some offers I didn't have when I committed."
The Hokies still have eight commitments for the 2016 class, including three projected to be defensive backs in Stonewall Jackson (Va.) three-star safety Reggie Floyd, Wise (Md.) three-star cornerback Myles Wolfolk and Greer (SC) three-star cornerback Troy Pride. Hampton (Va.) three-star athlete Jovonn Quillen could also play as a defensive back next fall.
