Virginia Tech didn't have to wait until the end of its first junior day of the year to secure a commitment.
As first reported by Rivals.com mid-Atlantic analyst Adam Friedman, the Hokies picked up a commitment this morning from St Frances (Md.) cornerback Kareem Felder, ranked No. 29 in Maryland by Rivals.com. Felder is Virginia Tech's third commitment in the 2016 class, joining four-star quarterback Logan Byrd and three-star cornerback Myles Wolfolk.
Was just told about a 2016 DB commitment for #VT http://t.co/AgZypBWonE http://t.co/6fPqnYs22N has the scoop @rivals @rivalsmike- Adam Friedman (@RivalsFriedman) February 7, 2015
I like DB Kareem Felder, #VT's newest commitment. Seen him multiple times & excited to see how he has progressed this spring. @Wolvereem07- Adam Friedman (@RivalsFriedman) February 7, 2015
Felder was recruited by former assistant coach Aaron Moorehead, but had since developed a good relationship with assistant coach Torrian Gray, which ultimately played a huge role in his decision. The offer from the Hokies didn't officially come until early last month, but Felder already had an affinity towards them, as he told HokieHaven.com Jan. 12.
"Growing up, that has always been a favorite of mine and one of my favorite schools to watch," he said. "They have a good defensive backs coach and that's what I'm looking for. A lot of my favorite DBs came from out of there. Those are the biggest reasons they're in my top three."
Felder is attending Virginia Tech's junior day this afternoon and will also be on hand at the Hokies' basketball game against Florida State.
