Cole Beck ready to commit

Blacksburg (Va.) three-star running back Cole Beck recently laid out a plan for wrapping up his recruitment: take unofficial visits to each of his three finalists, then make a commitment.

He saw North Carolina early in the Fall, Pittsburgh a few weeks ago, and most recently, hometown Virginia Tech. Although the Hokies offered later than his other favorites, his connections to the college just a few miles away from home has made them a serious contender.

He took in VT's 31-17 loss to Clemson Saturday evening, and it lived up to expectations.

"It was awesome," he said. "I couldn't ask for a better environment to be in."

With the three unofficial visits under his belt, he'll waste no time in bringing an end to his recruitment. A college commitment should come this weekend.

"[I've made all three trips], then it's time to commit," he said. "I would like to commit this Friday after my homecoming game."

The 6-0, 174-pounder is the No. 17 senior in the state of Virginia, and there's no question that the timing of the commitment - right on the heels of a visit to Lane Stadium - looks pretty good for the Hokies. VT already holds a pledge from Florida two-star Caleb Steward at the position, but the initial plan was to take two tailbacks in the class. Both are also versatile enough to potentially end up in another position should Beck pick VT.

Stay tuned Friday evening to find out whether he'll become a Hokie, Panther, or Tar Heel.
