Virginia Tech wide receiver Bucky Hodges will try his hand at the NFL Draft, Andy Bitter of the Roanoake Times reports. The redshirt junior has one year of college eligibility remaining.
The 6-7, 245-pound Hodges was a four-star pro-style quarterback prospect in the 2013 class and played both that position and tight end during his redshirt year before two years as a tight end and a move to wideout this season.
He was VT's third-leading receiver this fall behind juniors Isaiah Ford and Cam Phillips (each of whom might have an NFL decision of his own to make in the near future). He caught 48 passes for 691 yards and tied for the team lead with seven touchdown grabs. He also contributed 42 rushing yards and came up just short of the endzone a couple times in that phase of the game. His career marks of 20 touchdowns, 133 receptions, and 1,747 yards rank second, fifth, and 11th respectively in the Hokies' all-time annals.
Hodges is widely projected as a first- or second-round pick.
