Armani Chatman is a Hokie

Late last night, Virginia Beach Bishop Sullivan athlete Armani Chatman became commitment No. 14 for Virginia Tech's 2018 class.

The 6-0, 175-pound Chatman is the second-highest ranked of all VT pledges in the Class of 2018, the No. 8 "athlete" prospect nationally and the No. 163 overall player in the nation. The Hokies' first in-state commitment is ranked No. 5 within the borders of Virginia. He will play his senior year at Bishop Sullivan after previously attending Virginia Beach Bayside.

Chatman could play either slot receiver or defensive back by the time he arrives in Blacksburg, depending on what end up being the greatest need. Initially a wide receiver prospect, he's expanded his game (though the Hokies' need may end up greater there as well following the decommitment of Bryce Thompson), and proved his versatility at Virginia Tech's satellite camp with Old Dominion a couple weeks ago.

With Chatman's pledge, VT is up to No. 16 nationally in the Rivals.com team recruiting rankings. He is the third four-star prospect in the group (and, should he play wideout, all three of them are in that position group).
