Virginia Tech in Mataeo Durant's top five

Virginia Tech is still on the hunt for a pure running back in the 2017 class, and it could be McCormick (S.C.) three-star Mataeo Durant. He narrowed his list to five schools over the weekend, with the Hokies still in the hunt.

Duke, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, and a surprise home-state school, FCS Wofford, round out the list for Durant. East Carolina, Mississippi State, and West Virginia are among the programs he eliminated (meaning Wofford's inclusion is a true honor indeed for the Terriers).

The 6-1, 190-pounder is the No. 45 tailback nationally and the No. 14 rising senior in the Palmetto State. He hasn't yet announced plans for further narrowing his list or coming to a decision.

Durant has visited Blacksburg multiple time already, despite just picking up his offer from the Hokies in April. While VT did pick up a potential running back last week in the form of North Carolina three-star Nadir Thompson, there's still a need at the position thanks to Thompson's potential use at slot receiver or defensive back. Durant is one player seriously in the running for that spot.
