Tyrod Taylor takes the reins

Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer announced on Monday he will start true freshman quarterback Tyrod Taylor against Ohio this Saturday.
Beamer stated in a teleconference that he thinks Taylor fits the Hokies personnel better, but he was quick to add he hasn't lost confidence in previous starter Sean Glennon.

"Tyrod is our quarterback," Beamer said Monday. "This is not a reflection on Sean. He's put so much into his preparation and he's such a competitor. We just feel like with this football team and our offense, Tyrod gives us the best chance to be a really, really good offense."
"I'm not quick to pull a quarterback. We didn't make this decision quickly. We expect Tyrod to be our quarterback."
Taylor made his first collegiate appearance over the weekend at LSU and accounted for 106 yards of offense and one touchdown.
He completed seven of his 18 pass attempts for 62 yards, but also added a rushing touchdown and 44 yards on the ground in nine carries.
Taylor is the first true freshman to play quarterback under Beamer since former Hokie starter Bryan Randall.
Glennon has started the past 15 games for the Hokies, posting an 11-4 record. He was 2-of-10 for 16 yards and an interception on Saturday at LSU.
Virginia Tech plays Ohio at 1:30 on Saturday. The game will only be shown on ESPN360, an Internet broadcast.
In other news, both polls came out on Sunday and Virginia Tech fell to No. 17 in the USA Today Poll and No. 18 in the AP Top 25.
