TyJuan Garbutt decommits

Rivals.com

The Hokies have lost a commitment. Fredericksburg (Va.) Riverbend four-star defensive end TyJuan Garbutt announced on his Twitter account this afternoon that he's re-opening his recruitment.

The 6-3, 222-pounder had been one of Virginia Tech's highest-ranked pledges, the No. 11 weak side DE and No. 217 overall player in the nation.

Although VT will still have a serious shot - he says the Hokies are still his leader - their position in his recruitment is naturally a more tenuous one at this point than it had previously been.

After Garbutt's decommitment and the reclassification of JUCO wide receiver Henri Murphy to the 2016 class, VT is now down to 11 pledges in the Class of 2017, and the group is No. 37 in the Rivals.com team rankings.
