Mitchell carried the ball 102 times for 1033 yards (10.1 per carry) and 17 touchdowns as a junior, while also returning kickoffs for 170 total yards. The 6-2, 185-pounder has some positional versatility - he could end up a defensive back or receiver in college - but the Hokies' first choice for him is to tote the rock.

Mitchell visited Blacksburg for a spring practice in late March, and took his official the weekend of June 17.

"The coaches treated me like family," he said. "I never felt like I didn’t belong in the environment they made sure I was good. Everybody there has good vibes, they were straightforward - they made sure we knew they was about business. It's a great experience especially being in the mountains: it’s a nice view."

With his commitment, Virginia Tech's class climbs to No. 33 nationally with 14 pledges.
