Has your size changed at all?
I'm still around 6'2" and 285. It's about the same.
What does your workout routine entail?
I try to mainly focus on cardiovascular stuff and being able to sustain my wind. I wanna be able to maintain that. As far as strength, I just wanna get my legs as strong as possible, so any kind of squats, like front squat. I do any kind of upper-body work to get my chest and arms pumped. You've gotta keep a good ab workout too, to even it all out, because your stomach is pretty much the base of it all.
When do you plan on reporting to Virginia Tech?
Early July. I was talking to Vinny about it yesterday and I think he said they want me up for one of the summer schools.
What do you plan on working or improving on through this summer?
I'm just gonna work on myself overall as a football player. I'll just try to be as ready as I can to compete at that level that Virginia tech brings. So, I wanna be a well-rounded player when I get there.
How would you describe your playing style?
I go 100 miles an hour and definitely to the whistle. Those are the two things that describe my game the best. I try to stay as fundamentally sound as possible. I don't try to waste steps. I don't wanna say I'm a perfectionist, but I wanna get as close to perfection as I can, make the play as fast as possible.
What are some of your goals for your freshman season at Virginia Tech?
Just giving myself the best chance to play, bottom line. I go by the model that my hard work is gonna take me as far as I wanna get. I'm just gonna work as hard as I can and see where I end up with that. I haven't set any goals, just goals as far as how hard I'm gonna work.
What player or team are you most looking forward to going up against?
William & Mary, because it's the first game. But Ohio State is a big game, UVA and the Commonwealth Cup. There's so many games, so I can't tell you which one I wanna play in the most. I wanna play in all of 'em.
What's your favorite food?
Pizza, definitely. I've gotta go with the meat lovers.
What is your favorite movie?
Probably a tie between "Friday Night Lights" and "Remember The Titans."
What is your favorite TV show?
I'm not even sure. I watch a lot of ESPN, so I guess you could say that.
What's the one song you're getting amped up to before a game?
It's not really one song, but it's usually The Amigos or Juicy J.
What would be three words to describe you?
Hard-working, hard-working and hard-working, (laughs). I'm just playing. I'm overall loose, a good guy to get along with. I think I'm a pretty funny guy and I'm definitely ready to work hard for whatever I'm about to get after.
If you could date any celebrity, who would it be?
It'd probably be...I'm gonna go with the stereotypical answer, Kim Kardashian.
If you could go toe to toe in the ring with anybody, who would it be?
My dad in his prime, Steve Sonczak I. My dad in his prime was a pretty animalistic guy. He was a beast. Being myself, I'm gonna go ahead and say, I got him. He's still a beast and he's still just as strong as me.
What's been your most memorable experience playing football?
It would probably be when we beat North Stafford (Va.) in overtime when we were down real late. You know how they say, 'Never give up?' That was one of those moments where I actually got to see it first-hand. And you can't beat that learning experience.
What's the one thing you learned from your recruitment that you would pass on as advice to a future recruit?
I would just tell anybody, it's not about the glitz and glamour, it's about finding out where you wanna go. Making that university and that team and everything about that area, make it shine and just try to represent that place the best you can.
