Has your size changed at all?
I actually weighed more than that in January. I was actually around 185, then I lost a little weight. I plan to come in around 193.
What does your workout routine entail?
I start off with core exercises. Then I'll do major lifts like squats, power cleans and dead lifts. I squat every day, but I do different variations. There's always sometime of squat and then clean. I just found a new exercise mixing two existing exercises. It's a reverse lunge into a Bulgarian. I put the leg back on to a bench and then I do the Bulgarian squat and I get a lot of work in the hip area. After that, between steps of leg workout, I do upper-body, but I try to keep everything consistent.
When do you plan on reporting to Virginia?
Probably the first of July.
What do you plan on working or improving on through this summer?
I'm gonna spend a lot of time in the weight room. To compete at the level we're required to be, the weight room is definitely a part of that formula. I'm gonna work on coming out of my break at full speed. High school coaches teach you that, but you're not always required to do that because of the competition level in high school. Everyone on the field in college is really talented and athletic.
How would you describe your playing style?
Explosive and consistent, that's how I aim to be. Regardless of where we are on the field, the condition, the score, I aim that as long as I'm on the field, there's a chance we can score. Every week, you can count on Joshua Stanford as an athlete being explosive every time he gets the ball. Whether I'm there is yet to be determined but there's definitely room for improvement and a lot of work ahead of me.
What are some of your goals for your freshman season at Virginia Tech?
I spend a fair amount of time thinking about that, but then I put that to the side and just focus on working and preparations. Instead of setting the bar really high, I'm gonna focus on working and preparing and seeing how I can benefit Virginia Tech when I get there.
What player or team are you most looking forward to going up against?
There's no real particular player. But being from Georgia, Rivals and a lot of websites like to rank a lot of Florida boys ahead of us from Georgia. Sometimes we look at the film and they're talented, but do they deserve to be ranked high ahead of us or even ahead of us at all. I like to go up against the Miami's and the Florida State's and especially Clemson after the big impact Sammy Watkins had as a true freshman.
What's your favorite food?
I don't really have a favorite. I really eat anything as long as it doesn't move or try to fight me off the plate.
What is your favorite movie?
Book Of Eli. I like Avatar, but I have to say Book Of Eli because of the message.
What is your favorite TV show?
I don't watch a lot of TV to be honest.
What's the one song you're getting amped up to before a game?
I usually don't get extra amped before a game, but I listen to a lot of praise and worship music, like "I Need You Now," "Now Behold The Lamb," "Come Now, It's Your Time To Worship." I like church and hymn songs. On the offensive side, you have to be poised because you're required to think and you have to have a level balance as far as your emotions.
What would be three words to describe you?
Child Of God.
If you could date any celebrity, who would it be?
Umm, to be honest I wouldn't date any celebrity because you don't know them too well. I don't have any fixation for any celebrity figure.
If you could go toe to toe in the ring with anybody, who would it be?
Haha. Anderson Silver, the UFC fighter. He's never lost, so I wanna see if I could do beat him.
What's been your most memorable experience playing football?
It would probably be the last game of the season. The quarterback was scrambling and threw a deep ball. I reached out for it but the safety came down. I saw him coming, still went out to get it and actually had it in my hands, but he lit me pretty good, a dude from Lassiter. I went to the sideline and was coughing up blood. It was a hard hit, but it surprised me because I've never been coughing up blood from any type of hit. When I went in the locker room, the blood was something in my throat. I went jogging back out and when the crowd roared and applauded, it was just a whole attachment with the whole crowd.
