Recruitment story

It was basketball, not any other specific school, that was VT's biggest hurdle in landing Turner. A mid-major shooting guard prospect, he was tempted to go with his first love at the next level, even though he's a better prospect on the football field.

Virginia Tech was joined by NC State (followed by eight other schools, including Oklahoma and West Virginia) on the top of his list, but it seemed like a forgone conclusion once he decide to skip his senior year of basketball - while transferring high schools to allow for early enrollment - that he'd end up in Blacksburg, along with several other players from the Greensboro area.

Game breakdown

Turner is a tall, long-striding outside receiver with the leaping ability and top-end speed to be a game-changer down the line. Even more impressive, his best football is ahead of him after he focused on basketball up until his senior year... and even then couldn't get in as much work on the gridiron as hoped, due to a season-ending injury.

He's an early enrollee, which should allow him to get healthy and physically ready to contribute as a true freshman.

Statistically speaking

Turner missed the majority of his senior season with a shoulder injury. He caught 25 passes for 613 yards (24.5 per catch) and six touchdowns, and ran six times for 37 yards (6.2 per carry) and another TD in five games. He added two tackles.
