Nadir Thompson is in. The 5-11, 170-pound athlete from Bailey (N.C.) Southern Nash has faxed his letter of intent.

Initially a high school running back, he planned to make the transition to a bigger defensive role this Fall, but missed most of the year with an ACL tear.

Recruitment story

Thompson made a very early commitment to NC State, picking the Wolfpack during his junior season. However, he continued to look around, including at Virginia Tech. After a couple visits to Blacksburg, he had a good handle of what VT wanted: a cornerback, rather than a running back. He had some experience in the secondary, and was intrigued. He flipped in June.

Game breakdown

Thompson will have to make the adjustment to full-time defensive back. He had intended to do that this Fall, but suffered an ACL tear just a couple games into his senior season. He's a pure speedster and willing hitter, but will have to adjust to the responsibilities of being an every-down defender. His athleticism should let him make that transition.

Statistically speaking

In three games, Thompson had three tackles including one sack, seven carries for 32 yards (4.6 per carry), and one kickoff return for 19 yards.
