Gaithersburg (Md.) Avalon School cornerback Jermaine Waller has faxed his letter of intent to Virginia Tech.
The 6-2, 180-pounder brings plenty of size and length to the secondary.

Three-star, No. 16 player in Maryland, No. 67 cornerback nationally.
Other suitors
Connecticut, East Carolina, Maryland, North Carolina State, Ohio, Old Dominion, Rutgers, Temple, Towson, Virginia
Recruitment story
Waller was kind of a surprise inclusion on the visit list for the Blacksburg BBQ: the Hokies were also planning to host Rivals100 defensive back Kalon Gervin, and were starting to fill up at the position group. He made the trip nonetheless, and earned an offer and quickly committed. Though he entertained other suitors this Fall, he never seriously threatened to bolt.
Game breakdown
Waller is a tall, long cornerback with some heft to him, more reminiscent of Adonis Alexander than your classic cover corner. He brings a physical edge to his game, as well, and should be able to shut down runs to the outside. He'll have to improve his hip flexibility for pure man situations, and learn to use his strength to make up for a lack of pure speed, but the tools are there.
Statistically speaking
Avalon struggled to 4-8 this year, but did not publish official stats for Waller.
