One of the highest-ranked commits has sent in his letter of intent: Philadelphia St. Joseph's Prep wideout Darryle Simmons.
The 6-2, 197-pounder is the higher-ranked of two Pennsylvanians
Rankings
Four-star, No. 14 player in Pennsylvania and No. 45 wide receiver nationally.
Other suitors
Boston College, Duke, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin
Recruitment story
Simmons was part of the "Philly three" that VT pursued (also landing Nasir Peoples from the group). He took a visit with his friends - at which time Peoples committed - and returned just a couple weeks later with his parents to get their approval. North Carolina and Penn State were the other serious options when he picked VT on Mother's Day. He never wavered.
Game breakdown
Simmons is a physical, big receiver who has the ability to make plays over the middle, gain yardage after the catch, and even stretch the defense just a little bit. He has outstanding hands, and that consistency is the primary asset to his game. A year to work on shaping his body and becoming a little more explosive should make him more than just a possession receiver.
Statistically speaking
St. Joseph's Prep fell in the PIAA Championship game, but unfortunately Simmons missed most of the year with injury.
