Virginia Tech officially has some bulk in the middle: Washington (D.C.) St. John's defensive tackle Cam Goode has sent in his LOI.

The 6-0, 315-pounder is one of the final pieces to issue his letter of intent, as he waited for a ceremony at his school. Although that ceremony was canceled, he could wait no longer.

Recruitment story

Goode picked up a lot of offers early in the process, but it seemed pretty clear from the beginning that Virginia Tech was the one he really wanted. When he got it, though, he continued looking at other programs for a little while. Arizona, Michigan State, and Pittsburgh were among the programs that missed out on him when he picked VT in early June. He fielded some interest from USC later in the process (and had the opportunity to visit when his team played in California), but an offer never materialized and no other school seriously threatened.

Game breakdown

Goode doesn't have optimal height, at only 6-0 to go with his 315 pounds, but where that may hurt him a bit in holding leverage away from offensive linemen, it should help him get under their pads, too. The most impressive part of his game is his quickness for a more stoutly-built guy. He's able to burst into the backfield, and as he reshapes his body a bit, that should improve, and he'll add the strength to hold up at the point of attack against offensive linemen.

Statistically speaking

St. John's had an up-and-down year (against a national schedule), but Goode finished with an impressive 29 tackles for loss and 14 sacks.
