The spotlight is what Stonewall Jackson (Va.) four-star defensive tackle Tim Settle had been waiting for. And today, he got it.
During a timeout at the Under Armour All-American game, Settle pulled out the hat of Virginia Tech. The Hokies got the nod over his other finalists, USC and Louisville.
Settle, No. 168 in the Rivals250, has long held Virginia Tech in high standing. He unofficially visited Blacksburg for the Hokies' season-opener in August with his father and officially visited in September for their win over Western Michigan.
Though he officially visited Oklahoma State, USC and Washington State as well, Settle seemed to always go back to Virginia Tech, with his recruiters, defensive coordinator Bud Foster and assistant coach Torrian Gray.
"They just tell me that there's a spot that needs to be filled for next year," Settle told HokieHaven.com in November. "They've got a couple of guys leaving and I have a great opportunity to play as a true freshman. They just need another top guy like me, plus I would help with recruiting as well. They're just breaking it down for me. They believe in me and they think I'll be a great fit there. My dad really likes them a lot, too."
Settle is the highest-ranked defensive commitment for the Hokies in the class of 2015 and the third defensive tackle in the class. He joins three-star defensive tackles Harry Lewis and Eric Whitehead. Rockbridge County (Va.) four-star offensive line signee Austin Clark, No. 84 in the Rivals100, is the highest-ranked member of the class.
