After a trying 2016 season that saw him struggle to see the field - and at times, publicize that he was at odds with the coaching staff - it comes as no surprise that redshirt sophomore running back Shai McKenzie will wrap up his college career elsewhere. The one-time four-star recruit announced his decision on his Twitter account last night:

McKenzie was the No. 24 running back in the 2014 class out of Washington (Pa.) High. In only six appearances this Fall, he rushed 20 times for 76 yards, good for 3.80 yards per carry and the seventh-highest total on the team. His lone touchdown of the year came against Tennessee. He was his most productive as a true freshman, rushing for 269 yards in six games before missing the remainder of the season with injury. His 2015 was cut short as well, and he redshirted after appearing in just two games.

Given that he plans to graduate from VT before transferring, he should have two years of eligibility to compete at his new institution.
