Call is blind faith. Norcross (Ga.) two-star offensive lineman D'Andre Plantin has been recruited by Virginia Tech for nearly all of 2014, but he hasn't been able to make it to Blacksburg on a visit.
Still, Plantin had seen all he needed to with the Hokies, giving them his commitment tonight, announcing his decision via Twitter. He chose Virginia Tech over his other finalist, Illinois.
I am officially committed to play football at Virginia Tech. I would like to thank all my supporters and give all praise to God #ACC #Hokies- Dandre Plantin (@ERA_of_MOAM56) November 6, 2014
Plantin, who has played both offensive line and defensive line in high school, will play offensive tackle for the Hokies. He's been in contact with assistant coach Stacy Searels since shortly after his arrival with Virginia Tech, though an offer came just last month. Still, Plantin saw the qualities he was looking for in his future home.
"Virginia Tech plays big-time football," Plantin said. "It's a good program and I've been talking to Coach Searels for a while now and he and I have built a really good bond. The deciding factor was really that Virginia Tech is closer to home and it wouldn't stress out my family trying to make a game. They play in the ACC, at a big-time level, they know how to win, like the bowl streak and I just wanna be a part of it."
Plantin becomes commitment No. 20 for the Hokies in the 2015 class and the fifth offensive lineman. He joins Rivals100 Rockbridge County (Va.) tackle/guard Austin Clark, Cushing Academy (Mass.) three-star guard Tyrell Smith, Winter Haven (Fla.) three-star tackle Mike Arnold and Royal Palm Beach (Fla.) two-star tackle Fred Johnson.
