Newsome Takes In VT Official
On the final visit official weekend before National Signing Day, Virginia Tech got a bit more acquainted with two of its commits.

One of them was Hampton (Va.) three-star athlete Deon Newsome. He'd been to Blacksburg multiple times before, but this time gave him a chance to meet another future teammate, get to know the Hokies' new coaches and give him a better idea of what to expect.
"It was a little cold, but it was fun," Newsome said. "The food was good and they welcomed me in, too. I got a chance to meet Charles Clark and he roomed with me."
Clark, the other Virginia Tech commit on an official visit, spent time hanging out with Newsome. But Newsome said he also enjoyed spending time with his host, freshman wide receiver Joel Caleb.
"He was a good host," Newsome said. "He showed me the ropes and everything and how it's gonna go. He was telling me how it's gonna be when I come in and how we're gonna do weight training and stuff like that."
Newsome plans to be joining Caleb in the Hokies' receiving corps this fall. That'll be a slight change from playing quarterback like he did this fall for the Crabbers, but Newsome said he's ready for the change or any other changes thrown at him.
"Who knows where I'm gonna end up after that, but that's what I'm coming in as," he said. "They're gonna run more of a spread offense. There will be more short passes, more precise routes and I think I'll do good."
One of the other recent changes thrown at him are the new offensive coaches for Virginia Tech. Newsome said he especially got to know new wide receivers coach Aaron Moorehead on his visit and see what he expects.
"I met Coach Moorehead and I like the way he watches film with us," Newsome said. "He was showing things he looks for on the field and stuff like that. I think his coaching style is good."
As he prepares to make his transition to Virginia Tech official by signing his letter of intent tomorrow, Newsome said he also has a better idea of what he still needs to do to be more prepared for this fall.
"I haven't done anything receiver-wise, so I need to work on all my receiver skills and everything," he said. "Probably my speed and my endurance are the main thing. I have good endurance, but I'm definitely gonna be going one way."
