Thompson is another in the recent wave of offers that are rooted in new safeties coach Tyrone Nix's connections in the Lone Star State. As with the others, there's a bit of an uphill battle to convince prospects without any other obvious connection to VT that Blacksburg is the place to go. However (also as with others), the more prospects who receive offers - and especially the more who make it on a visit to campus - the better than connection becomes. While Thompson hasn't scheduled a visit to Blacksburg yet, building a bit of a reputation in Texas should combine with Nix's reputation there to give VT a legit shot at some of these kids in the long run.
