Virginia Tech is making a renewed push into Texas in recent weeks, in part because they have an added connection there: safeties coach Tyrone Nix, who joined the program over the Summer, recruited the Lone Star State at his previous positions. It has yet to pay off (and Justin Fuente and Brad Cornelsen's connections in the state haven't yet, either), but with the level of attention VT is giving, it's only a matter of time before they begin to land some Texans. For Thompson specifically, they face an uphill battle with a number of top-recruiting programs already in the hunt, but only time will tell how effective Nix's recruiting will be in comparison to his predecessor.
