New Virginia Tech football offer: Ben Smiley

Virginia Tech has offered Chesapeake (Va.) Indian River 2019 defensive tackle Ben Smiley. Here's a quick look at him.

Maryland, Missouri, Rutgers, Temple, Wake Forest

Although Virginia Tech wasn't the first to offer Smiley, the Hokies should be a major player here. He comes from a pipeline area in the Tidewater, and was a high school teammate of incoming freshman Devon Hunter this past Fall. There are plenty of connections there. While Smiley hasn't mentioned a specific plan to visit Blacksburg, he certainly will at some point this Summer - for the first time with an offer in hand, after previously visiting multiple times - and that should be the first step toward keeping the Hokies in this one for the long haul.
