It was thought to be one of the strongest areas on the field for Virginia Tech this spring and it still might be. But just a few practices in, the Hokies' secondary has seen a few changes, thanks to injuries that weren't foreseen just a few weeks ago.
Safety Kyshoen Jarrett is still recovering from shoulder surgery in January, while on the first day of spring practice, cornerback Brandon Facyson injured his leg and will miss the rest of spring practice. That's given assistant coach Torrian Gray the chance to develop a number of players who have been behind those two. And by the end of spring, Gray hopes he has a bit more experience.
"Injuries build depth, so we'll get a lot more of a look now at Der'Woun Greene, Donovan Riley," Gray said. "Those are guys who have been doing a solid job for us, Chuck Clark. Now we've gotta get some guys more at corner. He's normally a safety for us, so we've gotta put him at corner. That's something that's gonna make him better in the long run."
