A sunny day at Lane Stadium in 2001 versus Miami is one of my best memories at Lane even though we lost a close 26-24 game. The 'Canes came into Lane Stadium ranked No. 1 and the Hokies were No. 14. I had tickets with my oldest son up in the nose bleed section on the student side. The fact that it was my son's first Hokie game made it even more special to me.
Virginia Tech was down 26-10 before the Hokies came back. Fullback Jarrett Ferguson scored on a one-yard touchdown run and the Hokies converted a two-point conversion to make it 26-18 to get the stadium rocking.
After a Miami failed third down conversion pass, it was time for Beamerball. Cornerback Eric Green blocked the Miami punt and Danny Manning scooped it up for the Touchdown and Lane Stadium was rocking. It was the loudest I have ever heard the stadium. The miracle comeback was ended when Ernest Wilford dropped Grant Noel's pass for the game tying two-point conversion.
That game made my son a lifelong Hokie even though he ended up going to Liberty University. We still talk about that game whenever we reminisce about the Hokies.
