My favorite memory attending a Virginia Tech game was 15 years ago on November 26, 1999. Although living in Southern California, I always re-visit Roanoke at Thanksgiving, and Tech was playing Boston College in its last regular season game that year. I attended the game with multiple family members, and the memories of course are around (former quarterback) Michael Vick.
The first memory was his incredible quickness in escaping Boston College tacklers on the passing plays when the blocking broke down. I had never seen any player able to react and move so quickly to avoid tackles.
The second memory I have was an incredible 69-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter to (former wide receiver) Andre Davis. The astounding thing about the pass was that the ball was in the air for 70 yards or so, and its height made it look like a great punt - not a pass.
Leaving the game with those memories of his quickness and his powerful arm is when I became a big-time fan of Vick and Virginia Tech football and remain so to this day - even though I am an under-graduate of VMI and post-graduate of Southern Cal. Which brings to mind another great memory attending the game at FedEx Field in 2004 when we kicked off the season against Southern Cal. But, I'll save that for another day...
