Charleston (W.Va.) Capital 2019 quarterback Kerry Martin Jr. doesn't hold an offer from Virginia Tech yet, but is at home in Blacksburg. He made a visit for the Hokies' junior day a week ago, and it was just another in a growing number of trips to Virginia Tech's campus.

"This was my fourth time coming to Blacksburg, and every time I leave impressed with something new," he said. "We got to tour the campus and I learned more about the educational side of the program and I liked it a lot and was very interested in all the things they had in store.

"The best part of the visit was the interaction I had with the OC and the DC and the possible positions I could play at VT. It surely improved my view of VT tremendously."

Martin, a dual-threat quarterback in high school, could project to a number of positions at the next level. That includes defensive back, so the Hokies' coaches are making sure to pay close attention to his athleticism, not just ability to throw the ball.

Hokies quarterback coach Brad Cornelsen is expected to stop by Martin's school today, along with coaches from West Virginia. Still, the Virginia Tech staff is advising the 6-2, 188-pounder to be patient when it comes to a potential scholarship offer. In fact, they've given him a clear pathway to when that may come through.

"The coaches said that they loved my film and the QB coach will come and visit me and talk to me a little bit more at my school," Martin explained. "They also say they liked me on both sides of the ball and with me not having much defensive highlights, coach Bud Foster said if I came and did drills in front of him and preformed well he'd have some good news for me."

That likely means waiting until camps this Summer for an offer from the Hokies, but it's clear that they intend to remain right near the top of his list. He has his next trip to campus tentatively planned, and wants to see a few other programs coming up, as well.

"I will eventually come back in the spring to VT, but I will be visiting Kentucky, Maryland, Louisville and Indiana very soon," he said.

So far, Cincinnati, Marshall, Miami (Ohio) and Toledo have offered. A strong Spring and camp season from Martin could see several bigtime schools getting into the mix.
