Keene Commits To Hokies

The relationship won out in the end.

It might be a stretch typically for Virginia Tech to receive a commitment from a Rocky Mountain state. But Chatfield (Colo.) three-star athlete Dalton Keene has a big prior connection, a big part in why Keene made his commitment to the Hokies this morning.

Keene's father roomed and played with assistant coach Charley Wiles when both were at Murray State. The relationship grew with Wiles as his primary recruiter and led to an offer from Virginia Tech in early February.

Wiles got his first look at Keene when Keene participated in the Hokies' two-day camp in June. He returned to Virginia Tech Feb. 6 for junior day.

Keene is slated to play tight end or H-back for the Hokies. He chose them over six other offers, from Nebraska, Iowa State, Missouri, Colorado, Colorado State and Syracuse.

Keene's commitment is No. 7 in the 2017 class for Virginia Tech. He joins four-star defensive end Tyjuan Garbutt and three-stars Rayshard Ashby, Caleb Farley, Hendon Hooker, Devante Smith and Aundre Ricardo-Kearney.
