One of Virginia Tech's top remaining targets in the 2018 class is Detroit Cass Tech defensive back Kalon Gervin. He knows when he'll be making his commitment - and it's not too far off.

Oregon, Michigan State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Florida are also in the mix. The 5-11, 180-pound Gervin is the country's No. 106 player overall - if he were to choose the Hokies, he'd surpass No. 122 Tre Turner as the highest-ranked player in the class - and No. 14 among cornerbacks.

While he didn't announce the date quite yet, it's likely that his commitment will come after his scheduled official visit to Blacksburg for the Oct. 21 game against North Carolina. Several of VT's other top recruits, including linebacker Dax Hollifield and defensive end KJ Henry, will take their official visits at that time, as well. Gervin took his official visit to Oklahoma the weekend of Sept. 15.

VT currently boasts the No. 17 class in the country with 20 commits. The group should stretch to 25 total signees come National Signing Day in February. That could mean a high ranking, with many of VT's top-ranked targets still on the table. The Hokies have seven current commitments from players expected to line up somewhere in the secondary, but with a sparse depth chart now, and two starting corners graduating at the conclusion of this season, plenty of help is needed to re-stock the ranks.
