While Virginia Tech had stockpiled offensive linemen this fall, its haul got a little bit less Wednesday night.
In a video posted on Twitter, Royal Palm Beach (Fla.) three-star tackle Fred Johnson announced his decommitment from the Hokies. Johnson officially visited Virginia Tech Sept. 26 and announced his commitment just days later.
Johnson had been a soft verbal commitment for the past few weeks. Johnson was offered by Florida Oct. 26 and had said he was contemplating a move then. But with coach Will Muschamp being relieved of his duties this week, it appeared less clear that a move would happen.
Johnson, who was recruited by assistant coaches Stacy Searels and Charley Wiles, also had offers from Marshall and Nebraska. His only other official visit was to Marshall on Sept. 12.
Virginia Tech now has four offensive linemen in its 2015 recruiting class, with commitments from Rockbridge County (Va.) four-star tackle Austin Clark, No. 82 in the Rivals100, Cushing Academy (Mass.) three-star guard Tyrell Smith, Winter Haven (Fla.) three-star tackle Mike Arnold and Norcross (Ga.) three-star tackle D'Andre Plantin.
