Just two days after making his second official visit and less than a week from being offered, it didn't take Royal Palm Beach (Fla.) offensive lineman Fred Johnson long to decide where he wanted to commit to.
Johnson, who officially visited Virginia Tech this past weekend, committed tonight to the Hokies. He becomes their 17th commitment for the 2015 class.
"Really, just the overall school feel, it's a place where I could see myself being at for four to five years," Johnson said. "It's a place I can go put in work and better myself academically and through football."
Johnson chose the Hokies over an offer from Marshall, where he officially visited Sept. 12. He also had interest over the past few days from West Virginia, Nebraska and Middle Tennessee.
Johnson, who was recruited by assistant coaches Charley Wiles and Stacy Searels, becomes the third offensive line pledge for Virginia Tech in the class. He joins Winter Haven (Fla.) three-star tackle Mike Arnold, who committed last week and three-star guard Tyrell Smith, who signed with the Hokies in February and is spending this fall at Cushing Academy (Mass.).
