Jamarcus Chatman includes Hokies in top schools

Virginia Tech landed one prospect from Rome (Ga.) High School in 2017, and is hoping for more in the next class. They took a big step with three-star defensive end Jamarcus Chatman yesterday, when he included the Hokies in his list of ten schools.

Florida, Florida State, Miami, Michigan, Minnesota, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee, and Wake Forest also made the cut for the No. 29 strongside defensive end and No. 47 Georgian in the 2018 class.

Georgia Tech, Iowa, Texas, USC, and West Virginia are among the schools that have offered but did not make the cut for the 6-3, 266-pounder. Rome linebacker Jaylen Griffin will head to Blacksburg at the conclusion of his senior year this Spring, while the Hokies have also offered a classmate of Chatman's, three-star running back Jalynn Sykes.

VT has made a concerted effort to improve its footprint in the Peach State, landing two other prospects from Georgia (Stockbridge running back Jalen Holston and Fitzgerald tight end Lecitus Smith) in 2017, along with Griffin, and thus far issuing 30 scholarship offers to the area in the 2018 class.

Landing a prospect like Chatman could go a long way toward fortifying their position in the Atlanta area specifically, as well as Georgia at-large.
