In-state safety sees Blacksburg

While Saturday's game against Clemson saw VT host a number of national visitors, the Old Dominion game was an in-state heavy group. Oakton (Va.) Flint Hill 2019 safety Trey Rucker was one such prospect.

The 6-2, 180-pounder got a wide-ranging view of campus.

"I was able to see all of the different buildings on campus while I was in the bus," he said. "I also took a tour of the athletic building and saw everything in there."

While Rucker is still looking for his first scholarship offer, he has plenty of interest from schools around the country. Conveniently, he got to see two of the schools showing the most interest on his visit, since Old Dominion is also paying close attention to him. Other programs include a few national one, and others throughout ACC country.

"I’m hearing from ODU, Syracuse, Louisville, UMass, Clemson, Tennessee, and Michigan," he said.

Virginia Tech may not be pulling the trigger on an offer in the immediate future, but he did get a chance to build his relationship with the Hokies when he was in Blacksburg. Safeties coach Galen Scott sat down with him and the two had nice conversation.

"I was able to talk to Galen Scott," Rucker said. "I mostly talked to him about how my season was going."

So far, so good for that season - Flint Hill is 4-0 at this point, and Rucker is the No. 3 tackler on the team. He also has a pass breakup and has forced two fumbles, and makes contributions situationally on offense and special teams.

If he keeps it up, there's little doubt the offers will come rolling in. He certainly plans to continue being proactive on the recruiting trail, with more visits - including to one of his top schools - coming up this Fall.

"I will be taking another visit to VT," he said. "I also will see a couple of other schools."
