Hokies sitting in good shape for Caleb Steward

They only offered a few weeks ago, but already Virginia Tech is in good position for Jacksonville (Fla.) Ed White 2018 running back Caleb Steward. He named his top five schools over the weekend, and the Hokies made the cut.

Steward also includes Duke, Purdue, USF, and Wake Forest on his list. The 5-11, 195-pounder is currently considered just a two-star prospect, but has shown the VT coaches - and those from his other favorites - that he can make an impact as an all-purpose back. He's been timed in the 4.3-second range in the 40-yard dash, and has skills running and catching the ball.

With another top running back target, North Carolina's Trent Pennix, going off the board to NC State last week, the importance of landing a player like Steward is amplified. VT has made inroads to the Jacksonville area in recent years, and Steward could help compound that emerging pipeline.

Steward ran for 684 yards on 6.3 per carry for an Ed White team that finished 3-6 during his junior year.
