The new polls are here, and Virginia Tech has been rewarded for its season-opening victory against West Virginia.

VT has risen to No. 18 in the coaches poll, a gain of four spots. The Mountaineers, previously No. 20, have dropped out and unofficially rank 29th in the nation. Florida, which dropped eight spots after a demoralizing offensive performance in a loss, South Florida and Kansas State (both remained static after wins) also dropped behind VT. The Hokies have now matched their high-water mark from 2016, which came after their bowl victory against Arkansas.

The Associated press was initially higher on the Hokies, placing them No. 21 (a spot ahead of the Mountaineers), but with that vote of confidence comes a bit less upward mobility with the victory Sunday evening.

Miami (17 coaches, 16 AP) and Clemson (3 in both) are future opponents ranked ahead of the Hokies. Potential ACC Championship Game opposition Louisville (16 coaches, 17 AP) and Florida State (9 coaches, 10 AP) also represent the conference in the rankings.
