Hokies make top schools for Jamar Johnson

Virginia Tech has made inroads to Florida, and defensive back Jamar Johnson is one player keeping VT in the running.

The 6-2, 182-pound Johnson also includes Iowa State, Marshall, Purdue, Wake Forest, Western Kentucky, and Western Michigan among the programs still in the hunt. The three-star, unranked at his position or within the state of Florida, eliminated mostly mid-major and FCS-level programs from contention.

His length sees him meet the physical criteria that the VT coaching staff is looking for in a cornerback, but Johnson may have waited himself out of a spot in Blacksburg. The Hokies offered at the beginning of June, but have since picked up commitments from potential defensive backs DJ Crossen, Nadir Thompson, and Armani Chatman.

It's likely that Johnson ends up picking one of his other suitors, unless there is unexpected attrition from the Hokies' current roster or commitment list.
