Hokies make top eight for Christian Turner

VT is one of the more recent offers for 2018 running back Christian Turner, but that hasn't prevented the Hokies from being right in the mix. The three-star from Buford (Ga.) High included Virginia Tech in his early top eight.

Michigan, Missouri, NC State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Wisconsin join Virginia Tech on the early list for Turner, who insists nonetheless that his recruitment is open to schools who didn't make this early group. Louisville, Miami (Fla.), Northwestern, and Virginia are among the programs that have offered the country's No. 26 tailback and No. 36 Peach Stater in the 2018 class, but did not make his list.

The 5-10, 180-pounder plays for a power program in the talent-rich Gwinnett County suburbs of Atlanta. Virginia Tech has made a strong effort to increase its presence in Georgia generally, and the Atlanta suburbs specifically, under the Justin Fuente coaching staff. VT signed three players from Georgia in the 2017 class, including running back Jalen Holston from the Atlanta suburb of Stockbridge.
