Hokies in the NFL: 2016 Final

With Super Bowl LI in the books, the 2016 NFL season has official come to an end. No former Virginia Tech players made it to the championship game, but the season-long stats point out important roles played by those who once donned the Maroon and Orange.

Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals went 7-8-1 on the year, missing out on the playoffs. Former Hokies QB Bruce Arians (1971-74) is Arizona's coach.

Buffalo Bills

Buffalo finished 7-9 on the year, missing out on the playoffs.

Former Hokies QB Tyrod Taylor (2007-10) started 15 games for the Bills before sitting out the season finale. He completed 269/436 passes (61.7%) for 3,023 yards (6.9 per attempt) with 17 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also ran 95 times for 580 yards (6.1 per rush) and six more touchdowns. He also fumbled four time, losing two.

Logan Thomas (2010-13) was picked up as a tight end (he played QB previously and in college) midway through the year, but did not see game action for the Bills.

Chicago Bears

The Bears finished 3-13 on the year, missing out on the playoffs.

Defensive back Kyle Fuller (2010-13) missed the entire year, sitting on injured reserve due to a hip that was slow to recover.

Wide receiver Eddie Royal (2004-07) played in nine games, starting just one. He had 33 catches for 369 yards (11.2 per grab) and two touchdowns. He also returned 19 punts for 166 yards (8.7 per return) and a touchown.

Houston Texans

The Texans went 9-7 in the regular season, and fell to the Patriots in the divisional round of the AFC Playoffs after winning the Wild Card game against the Raiders.

Offensive lineman Duane Brown (20040-08) missed the first four games of the year, but started the final 12 regular season contests and both in the playoffs.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs went 12-4 in the regular season, but lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the divisional round of the AFC Playoffs.

Outside linebacker Dadi Nicolas (2011-15) played in 11 games on special teams for the Chiefs, but failed to make the statbook.

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings went 8-8 and missed out on the playoffs.

Defensive back Antone Exum (2009-13) missed the entire season after a leg fracture at the beginning of the year.

New Orleans Saints

The Saints went 7-9 and missed out on the playoffs.

Defensive end Darryl Tapp (2002-05) played in all 16 games with two starts. He made 17 total tackles, including a half-sack, on the year.


San Diego Chargers

The Chargers went 5-11 and missed out on the playoffs.

Cornerback Brandon Flowers (2004-07) played in six games before going down with a season-ending injury. He made 28 total tackles, broke up five passes, and made one interception, which he returned for a 33-yard touchdown.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks went 10-5-1 and fell to Atlanta in the divisional round of the NFC Playoffs after beating the Lions in the wild card game.

Safety Kam Chancellor (2006-09) played in 12 games for the Seahawks, starting all of them. He made 85 total tackles, broke up eight passes, and made two interceptions.

Washington Redskins

The Redskins went 8-7-1 and missed out on the playoffs.

Cornerback Kendall Fuller (2013-15) played in 13 games, starting six. He made 42 total tackles and broke up two passes.

Offensive lineman Vinston Painter (2008-12) saw action as a reserve in five games.
