Hokies in final seven for Litchfield Avajon

Virginia Tech hasn't yet wrapped up its 2018 class, but is already in strong position with a key 2019 recruit. Alexandria (Va.) Episcopal defensive back Litchfield Ajavon named his top seven schools over the weekend, and the Hokies are represented.

Clemson, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Wisconsin are also in the mix for the 6-0, 185-pounder. Michigan State, North Carolina, and Virginia were among the other programs to offer, but are no longer being considered.

The No. 21 safety in the nation and No. 6 2019 player in the state of Virginia, Ajavon is considered a three-star prospect to Rivals.com. He has visited Virginia Tech in the past, and made visits to Michigan and Notre Dame (the latter of which he's sen multiple times) this football season.

A strengthened emphasis on locking down the state of Virginia could be boosted by landing a player like Ajavon. VT landed eight in-staters in the 2017 class and currently has five pledges in the Class of 2018 from home territory. The lone 2019 commitment so far is Jahad Carter from Henrico High School, and the Hokies have offered the majority of the state's top prospects (16 total in-state offers) in the class.

Should VT land him, Ajavon's DMV-area location could be another boost to recruiting efforts in a key area.
