Hokies finish No. 24 in final AP Poll

The 2017 college football season is finally in the books, and Virginia Tech ends it as the No. 24 team in the land.

Following their Camping World Bowl loss to Oklahoma State, Justin Fuente's crew dropped to No. 24 nationally, just two spots from their pro-bowl standing. No. 4 Clemson, No. 13 Miami, and No. 23 NC State also represent the ACC in the final poll, while the bowl-opponent Cowboys come in No. 14. While the pre-season 2018 polls will inevitably be different than the final marks in 2017, it's worth noting that No. 11 Notre Dame is on the schedule for the upcoming season, as well.

Back-to-back finishes inside the national top 25 under Fuente are a return to form for the Hokies, who missed on the year-end poll only once between 1998 and 2011, but failed to register in the final four years of the Frank Beamer era.

National Champion Alabama (57) and undefeated Central Florida (4) were the only two squads to come away with a first-place vote.
