The 5-9, 170-pounder today named a top five that sees the Hokies joined by Florida, North Carolina, Penn State, and Tennessee. Other schools that offered - but have been eliminated - include Miami (Fla.), Ohio State, and Tennessee.

Slade is a four-star ranked the No. 2 all-purpose back and No. 66 overall prospect nationally. He plans to leave the door open to new schools that come in with offers that previously have not recruited him.

One of Slade's high school coaches is John Harris, who was a mentor to redshirt freshman defensive tackle Tim Settle during his high school years prior to Settle's commitment to the Hokies.
